Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) is a collaborative, structured, active, empirical and problem-oriented intervention. It has a number of principles and considers the connections between thoughts, emotions, body changes and actions. CBT aims to identify and change unhelpful thinking and behaviour patterns so you can feel and perform better.

Interpersonal Psychotherapy (IPT) is a further evidence-based, structured therapy that is used for the treatment of depression. It concentrates on the association (and interaction) between interpersonal relationships and depressive symptoms. IPT aims to help you learn to link depressive symptoms with interpersonal contacts and to recognise that, by addressing interpersonal issues, you simultaneously improve both your relationships and depressive symptoms.

Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) is an evidence based, integrative treatment for various psychological problems such as PTSD and OCD. There is also a growing evidence base suggesting that it can be helpful in addressing some sport performance issues (e.g., Yips and performance blocks).

EMDR emphasises the brain’s information processing system and memories of adverse/traumatic experiences. It perceives that inadequate processing and maladaptive storage of these experiences are the foundation of psychological and performance problems. When memories and experiences have been successfully processed and stored through EMDR, a number of positive outcomes can be attained. Examples include presenting problems reducing or disappearing, reduced distress from disturbing memories, improved self-views, more adaptive responses in the present and increased contentment, satisfaction, well-being and performance.
